Installation process: Is it mandatory for Singapore homes?

The installation of Home Fire Alarm Devices (HFADs) is not mandatory for existing residential premises not undergoing fire safety works, according to information from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). However, existing homeowners are strongly encouraged to install the devices for their safety.
On the other hand, all new residential units and existing units undergoing fire safety works, such as renovation works involving fire-rated doors, are required under the Fire Code to install HFADs within the units since June 1st, 2018. If you’re on top of renovating your home or building a new one with open balconies must also install one, as per the building plans that are submitted to authorities of SCDF, HDB, and BCA on or after June 1st, 2018.
As for the installation process, the SCDF recommends the use of HFADs that operate on a built-in battery with a 10-year life span – We exactly offer just that!
How do I make sure that my HFAD is maintained well?

According to Singapore Civil Defence Force, you should contact the HFAD supplier if you experience any issues with your device, such as a low battery indicator or failed attempts to silence the alarm due to high volumes of smoke or a contaminated sensing chamber.
Additionally, the Singapore Civil Defence Force recommends having a smoke detector as your primary protection in your home instead of a heat detector.
Here are 3 tips :
Tip 1) – Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines
Tip 2)- You need to make sure the test button is working properly as it if you haven’t used it in a while, then you might end up with problems, so once a month, make sure you use the test button to ensure proper working
Tip 3) – SCDF Recommends choosing a battery with a lifespan of more than 10 years, and they also quote that there should not be any battery changes until the 10-year period has ended. You can ensure the expiry when the low battery indicator light or sound activates!

1)What should I do when the alarm sounds?
In the event of an alarm from a home fire alarm device (HFAD), immediately evacuate the building and go to the meeting point. Do not try to fight large fires, use the elevator, or re-enter the building. Close all doors, including fire rated doors, behind you as you leave, and don’t obstruct any of the escape routes. If the HFAD is low on battery, not functioning correctly, or detecting a high volume of smoke, make sure to replace it. Push the Test/Reset button until the noise stops to get the device back up and running again. To keep dust out during any renovations, put a plastic sheet over the HFAD. In dangerous circumstances where the fire is too intense, ensure everyone exits first before calling 995 for assistance.
2)Where to install a Fire alarm?
Be sure to install a fire alarm in key escape routes around your home, such as the living room, internal corridors, and stairways. This provides an added level of security for the whole family. You can also have them installed in bedrooms and other areas if desired. All fire alarms should be interconnected by wired and wireless connections to maximize protection. That way, when one is triggered, all connected devices will go off to alert you.
3)How to prevent a False Alarm?
There’s no need to worry. Just make sure to avoid placing your HFADs near any source of smoke, such as a kitchen or smoking area. If your HFAD sounds an alert unnecessarily, don’t be alarmed – just press the reset or test button to deactivate it and avert any further false alarms. Taking these steps will ensure your HFAD is functioning correctly and efficiently!
